Small Steps: Children's Theatre Symposium

Chaired by The Guardian's Lyn Gardner, Small Steps: Children's Theatre Symposium is being labelled as a day of conversation, exploration and practical debate on the development of a children's theatre ecology in the South East.
Presented by The Berry Theatre in Hedge End and hosted by its sister venue, The Point in Eastleigh, Small Steps offers artists, venues and promoters to a practical day of conversation about the development of work for young audiences in the South East region.
The exciting event will feature an opportunity to: listen to industry leaders and keynote speakers; see three performances by local companies; engage in practical workshops and discussion-based break-out groups tailored for promoters, venues, and artists; take part in a Q&A panel discussion with leading experts in the field of work for young audiences.
Industry experts and keynote speakers already confirmed include: Award-winning playwright Mike Kenny; Director of the Bank of Scotland Imaginate Festival Tony Reekie; and Director of the Egg Theatre Royal Bath Kate Cross. Other keynote speakers will be announced shortly.
Break-out workshops and discussion groups will feature a range of topics including: Exploring dramaturgical structures; playwriting; learning from best practice; practical advice on touring for companies; and making a success of children’s theatre from a venue perspective.
There will be performances on the day from three of the South east region's leading children's theatre companies: Peut-être Theatre (Draw Me A Bird), Unpacked (Robin and the Big Freeze) and Hiccup Theatre (The Owl and the Pussycat).
